Just wanted to say how wonderful it is to see a web page devoted to Kathy in the hands of someone who really cares about her!! Good luck and all best wishes to James, the web page, and of course to Miss Kathy Kirby. Linda x

Looking forward to regularly visiting the website and wish it great success.

Congratulations, Mr James Harman on producing a beautiful, fitting tribute to a true STAR! Both myself and partner Les have had the wonderful opportunity of meeting Miss Kirby very recently. She remains radiant and still shimmers like a rare jewel to this day. Kathy Kirby has given so much joy to so many over the years. We are so pleased that she is at last in the safe representation of a kind and caring person who looks after her best interest. Best wishes to all involved in this wonderful new site.
Miss Kathy Kirby,
We adore you!!!

Kathy Kirby; to those who were and still are her fans, the name will conjour memories of a wonderful artiste, coloured by her unique voice, style and glorious looks often compared to Marilyn Monroe.
No one has ever been able to emulate Kathy's exclusive voice or style. She was able to capture all emotions in her performances and gave everything to her audiences and followers.
I was priviledged to see and hear her live on several occasions and wish I still could.
However, at the end of the day, it is wonderful that Kathy is still with us even though she is not performing now.
Thanks to James for organising this new site and thanks and love to Kathy.

Trevor.

How lucky I am to have been around to experience a true star, who radiated glamour when the other artists of the day all looked the same.

And how wonderful it was and still is, to listen to a real star who has such a wide range in her voice, when everyone else was just a singer.

There have been many artists come and go, but there will never be another KATHY KIRBY.

Thank you Kathy the all your fantastic work, and for the pleasure you have added to my life.

And thank you James for helping to produce this new site, but most of all for caring for Kathy.

Love and best wishes

Hi
I'm in Australia and remember growing up to Kathy's music being played by my mum on the old record player and ever since I've tried to collect a lot of her music over the internet etc. and play it all the time...my children even know her voice!
Does she have any cd's with everything she's ever recorded on -not just the hits? I would love to have the full collection.
thanks for this lovely website..

Kathy Kirby's definitive rendition of "The Way of Love" towers over any other version. The single scored on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1965. It may have only reached No. 88 nationally, but I have fond memories of hearing it regularly on the radio stations here in Los Angeles. Unfortunately there never was a US Kathy Kirby full-length LP, but "The Way of Love" did appear on the US various artists LP "The Greatest Hits From England" on the Parrot label (the same label that released the single) and the song in fact closed Side 2 of the LP in spectacular fashion. There was also a photo of Kathy on the back cover. So Kathy's great US chart hit got placed on a US LP after all.

What an amazing site.
One of my memories of Kathy Kirby goes back to the 60's when Kathy and Frank Ifield starred in a summer season show at the ABC theatre in Blackpool.
Determined to meet her after the show, I hurried to the stage door and, in the pouring rain, I waited...and waited...and waited. But all I got was very wet! I remain convinced that she either left by helicopter that night, or stayed in there till morning. Was I downhearted? Not a bit of it! I had seen the show and it took me about three days to "come down" after it.
I never have met Kathy Kirby but listen to her music daily either on my ipod or on cd's in my car.
Thank you Kathy Kirby for all the wonderful music that has kept me happy for the last 45 or so years and thank you James Harman for keeping Kathy in front of her many fans.

A great website, tastefully presented, as befits an outstanding singer with a golden voice like Kathy! I was lost in time going through the site over several days. I just had to keep revisiting it and hear the songs over again. I am sure all of Kathy's fans will be as delighted as I was. Best wishes from the Northern Territory of Australia (where I now live).

Justin, thanks for emailing from Germany, your email was greatly appreciated and I wish my German was as good as your English! Thanks to everyone else that has posted too. The site is new and only just up and running, but I know you will agree that Murph (the web designer) has done a fantastic job. Thank you my friend.
This site is purely to celebrate the talent of Kathy, and unlike another site, is not a platform to air individual person views which has nothing to do with paying tribute to the star Miss Kathy Kirby. James Harman

This website is the result of a wonderfull effort by James, Kathy and all those who have worked on it. It's a refreshing and overdue change which has been required for some time and uniquely endorsed by Kathy herself. Refreshing in that here you will see from the top down, the truly selfless promotion of, and genuine interest in Kathy, her life and well-being; and her stupendous singing career.

I'm back on stream - Congratulatins! Tony

A message from Malta:
Hello my friends, I am DJ John Mallia of Calypso Radio the most popular radio station in Malta. First of all I would like to thank James for this very interesting site about Kathy Kirby and all the information. Thanks too for all the help he gave me about Kathy's songs. Well... OK... I've made it this far. I started out on the Kathy Kirby tribute site, and now (apparently) I've got my very own BLOG.

Love this site. I just discovered Kathy Kirby on You-Tube. A fellow You-Tuber directed me to this website. It's totally fabulous!

I love all of the photos of Kathy, and the overall feel of the site is a great tribute to a great singer. (He tells me that Kathy occasionally checks the Blog.) If so... Kathy, I hope that you are doing well, and I appreciate the chance to have discovered you on You-Tube!

I remember visiting Amsterdam in the early 1980s with friends. We got talking to a Dutch guy who invited us for a meal. During a wonderful repast, we talked about our favorite singers and I happened to say that I adored Kathy Kirby.
As soon as I mentioned Kathy, our Dutch friend immediately put on one of Kathy,s LPs. It turned out that Kathy was also one of his favorite singers.
We had an enjoyable evening with good food, wine and wonderful music. Thanks to Kathy, a really good time was had by all.

I came to see an awfull lot of your live performances and got to know Vera quite well. Did you ever get the huge Easter Egg that we left with Vera at the Cresta Club (Solihull) or did she eat it herself.I tell my stories to my grandson, he is very interested in what nana did in her teens. I have spoken to James, he is a very nice person and very caring. Kathy I have so many stories to tell. Will close for now but will be back. Much love to you. Sandra X

Sadly most nights, late at night we are receiving abusive, homophobic comments on this blog. We are well aware who it is - but as he doesn't have the bottle to leave his name, but post anonymously - nothing can be done.
Just to clear up one point he is totally mistaken about, as he does not know the lady is:
Kathy does indeed now have a laptop, she cannot work it herself admittedly, but friends who visit her on a regular basis always show her the latest blogs. James

What a pity small minded bigots have such big egos and mouths. Still, all they do is show themselves up even more. I am sure no reasonable person would take the slightest bit of notice of what amounts to a sad individual's ravings. My advice-read, delete, forget!

Thank you Ray. However there is someone in London called John who does so much more for Kathy than I do. He just prefers to keep in the background though. He would tell you though that if Kathy has one fault it is that she is far too generous - and always has been.

Dear James,
Once again, congratulations on the continuing success of the Kathy Kirby website.
Unfortunately it is hard in this world to please everybody. Any negative response must surely be down to lack of self esteem, judgement of Kathy's REAL friends or jealousy.
I scratch my head and wonder what motivates such negative people. The website was set up as a fitting tribute to a great Star and both myself and Les support you 100%.
As Marlene Dietrich once said of her detractors...."They are Trrrrraaaassshhhh!"
Best wishes to yourself and the wonderful Miss Kirby as always.
Michael and Les.
Our Thanks To You.

Hello Kathy, this new website really is so refreshing in every way.
There are those however who would belittle the site, but those few small- minded people are really not worth bothering about!

Lets say thanks to James who gives so much real love and attention to all that you have done and will hopefully do in the future.

I can only say thank you for all you do.

Just like to say. What a great website, made very personal by the Great Lady herself, The sound of Kathy's voice again afer all theese years only goes to show her appreciation and endearment to all of her fans. Considering the pain she has encountered, this shows her unique STAR QUALITY and FIGHTING SPIRIT. I had the privelidge of speaking to Kathy last week, she still commands much respect, yet is very warm hearted and very bubbly and is now enjoying semi-retirement with the help and care of two very dear friends James and John. (who truly have only Kathy,s best interests at heart). John is Kathy's ROCK and James is responsible for throwing it.They are two of the nicest people I know, and I would personally like to pay tribute and thank them both for all of their effort and support and love of a TRUE star that still shines today. You are two great guys and it is a pleasure to know you.

Dear Kathy,
Just a short note to say thank you, thank you, thank you for the music. I totally disagree with the comment on another site that "Kathy possessed one of the finest female singing voices on the British side of the Atlantic" for I believe you have the finest singing voice on both sides of the Atlantic!!! Just listening to that crystal-clear voice sends shivers down my spine!!

I play "Dance On" almost every day (from the time I first heard the song ten years ago) and I can't seem to get enough of it!!!! I was only 7 when it was released and hadn't heard it until I was in my forties but hearing it for the first time was a revelation. It got me hooked on Kathy Kirby and everything she sung!! Desert Island Songs? Give me Kathy Kirby any day!!!

I have recently asked James to include a few of your songs that I have never heard on the jukebox on your site, and I can't wait for that to happen!

May God keep you well for many, many more years.

Love Simon Papa (Cyprus)

I just wanted to say "Hello Kathy and hope you are keeping well. Whenever I have a down day or two all I have to do is to play some of your songs and they send me to another place. I become so relaxed and happy. I have been a fan since
I was 12 years old which is over 45years ago and your singing voice still has the same affect on me as it did then.
I just want to say "Thank you" for all happiness your voice and songs have given me over to years.
God Bless.
Lots of love to you.

Hello to all you Kathy fans! Just popped in to say a few words about Kathy's forethcoming birthday on the 20th october, I forwarded my prezies to James (Harman),who very kindly to them to Kathy's. James is to be trusted implicitly and I will tell you why. I got a telephone call from the Lady herself and she thanked me personally for the gifts, she was delighted with them. Do not make the mistake that I made with her presents last birthday, she told me personally that she never received them and I was most upset about the situation. So to elabourate don't send them elswhere, or you could have a similar experience to mine. James is to be 100% trusted to give them to Kathy personally, so thanks again James and thanks to Kathy for the acknowledgement. Sandra. x

Anonymous said...

Sandra, thank you for that! I think I will start wearing an halo!
Seriously though I hope fans now know that if any fans want to send anything onto Kathy it will be delivered. Odeon have intrusted me with this site and with Kathy now approaching seventy I just want to make her life now as happy as possible. With the exception of Mark Willerton's authorised site, no other site has any contact with the lady herself, so it is up to the individual to who they send any card/present to reach The Diva. James

Hello Kathy
What a wonderful website. I have spent most of the afternoon listening to your recordings that play on the juke box.
When I was small we always watched BBC Christmas Night with the Stars and I can still remember you singing and making our Christmas so special.
It is great that a DVD is being made to celebrate your life and career but I cannot believe your age (it must be a mistake). I have ordered a copy already and I know I shall enjoy it.
I still think that your version of My Way is the best I have ever heard.
I send my best wishes for your up coming birthday, have a wonderful day.
Take care...

Just wanted to how great Kathy's Italian version of "I Belong" is.
I remember the 1965 Eurovision and we were all cheering at the TV after Kathy's performance. Kathy should have won.
James, what other languages did Kathy sing "I Belong "?
Love to Kathy and best wishes to yourself.

Hi Dave, "Now I Know" was from a recording session in April 1966 done at the same time as when Kathy cut "Will I Never Learn"/"Adam Adamant". "Memories" was one of the last tracks Kathy recording for EMI in the early seventies. I have a copy of "Who Knows" from May 1962 which I think did appear on one complilation LP/CD but as it is alittle known track, I will get Murph to pop it on the juke box. Thanks for the kind words. Fans might like to know about a new biography of Bruce Forsyth by Stephanie Pinter called 'Nice to see you - the Bruce Forsyth story' priced £10.99.
The Bruce - Kathy affair is handled sensitively and Ms Pinter is very complimentary to Kathy, describing her as 'one of the greatest voices of her generation, who has now become a cult figure.
The book includes a familiar B/W photo of Kathy on the 'Stars and Garters' set.
Bruce has already admitted his affair with Kathy in his own 2001 autobiography and she still talks about him affectionately today as 'Bru-Bru'.

I've just noticed that the Odeon Entertainment DVD of Kathy is no longer listed with a release date on Amazon.co.uk
James, can you advise if there is a delay in the release of this much awaited DVD.
I still have it on pre-order with Play.com (so hope it is just an Amazon error) Please let us all know.
Many kind thanks
Clive

James said...

The delay has simply been caused by the fact that Kathy has had a bad chest infection that simply refused to go away. This postponed the release date, as she was unable to film her contribution. Filming in now set to be done in the first half of November.
I know alot of fans were distressed by the dreadful piece in the Daily Express last week concerning the possible cancellation of the DVD. I know this because I had lots of emails and telephone calls about it. The article (written by a freelance journalist) was utter rubbish. Kathy has NOT been in hospital recently, and the attributed quotes from both Julie (of Odeon Entertainment) and myself were totally made up. The journalist has alot to answer for, and the newspaper was hardly blameless in not checking the facts and quotes he had written WERE true before going to press.

Anonymous said...

James
I have been away on holiday and I did not know about the newspaper article.I remember there was a photo of Kathy walking in London a few years ago. The press must been following or waiting to pounce. The gutter press!!I hope Kathy makes a good recovery and that she will be ok to film her contribution for her special DVD. Love to Kathy and best wishes to yourself.

James said...

Hi Dave, Kathy is now fine. Unfortunately there are some very unpleasant people about. As soon as the filming is done Murph will announce it on the latest news

Thank you James for updating me on the DVD.
I wish Kathy a speedy and full recovery.

Hi James,
Could you please tell me why the "gentleman" who runs the other web site (now shown to be utterly inferior), appears to be getting more and more bitter and nasty with everything he posts on his latest news and forums? What is the point? Is there any reasoning behind it? Linda. x

James said...

Hi Linda, it is probably best if I don't comment on your observations. I have had more than enough grief in the past from the gentleman in question. You are in good company though, as the same points have been mentioned to me by other Kathy fans in the past. I would suggest anyone interested in knowing why, should contact him directly.

James said...

It is with sadness that I have to report I have only just heard that Peter Gordeno has recently died.
Peter was picked from the West End Stage by Ernest Maxin, to choreograph the production numbers, and sing along side Kathy in her BBC "The Kathy Kirby Show" series. From there, The Peter Gordeno Dancers featured on virtually every major television variety show for the next twenty years. He also won international acclaim as Capt. Peter Carlin in the cult sci-fi series UFO

It continues to amaze me that after all this time away from the spotlight, one or two members of the public still wish to hurt Kathy.I hope the journalist who wrote the article feels ashamed, but I doubt it.Thank God for James and John who look out for Kathy. Love Raymond x

Having read the articles regarding Kathy and the recording of the new DVD by Odeon Entertainment in the Daily Express a couple of weeks ago, I just want to set this record straight. On day one The Daily Express printed a nasty article pointing out Kathy's long ago troubles and stating the DVD was shelved due to various mental and health issues. Why can't the media move on? We all have our problems. On day 2 the Express printed an altogether more flattering article and indicated all was well with the ongoing production of said DVD.
Just because an article appears in a leading paper does not neccessarily mean it is true.I reiterate that myself and partner spent a wonderful evening with Miss Kirby on her birthday. We had a marvellous time. She was so much fun to be with, the evening flew by.Kathy is charming, genial and as lovely as ever. The Daily Express should speculate elsewhere if it wants to print lurid and hurtful articles.Perhaps if they had met Ms Kirby this fabricated piece of trash may have come out altogether more positive. Maybe it should turn into a "red top" like the Daily Sport".
I say it again and from the HIGHEST HILL. Kathy Kirby is fine.So a word to the U.K. press...Stop knocking a national treasure and move with the times.
Michael and Les.

What a lovely site. It is such a pleasure to browse through, and wonderful to think that Kathy is so loved after all these years. My late husband and I were great fans of her TV show and we were lucky to meet her once after the show. She was so nice to us. I have only just found this site, but I know that I shall be coming back soon!!
Keep up the good work.

Kathy is currently signing all the letters acknowledging the many presents she received for her birthday. The kind people that sent them will be receiving the note soon

Letters signed by Kathy acknowledging the many birthday gifts she received have been posted today. It wasn't possible to respond to all the cards she had as they were in their hundreds. Thanks to everyone.

I felt devastated by the report in a recent article stating that Kathy was suffering from an alcohol related illness and schizophrenia.

If this is true, (which I doubt) I could understand her turning to drink after all she has gone through and now to add insult to injury, there is this two bit play going around trying to portray her.

I wonder what Kathy's real thoughts are of this small scale play that is touring.

I wish Kathy, health, Love & happiness.

James Harman has informed us that Kathy has now recorded her own contribution to the Odeon Entertainment DVD due for release early 2009.

Good luck to all involved in the final production. All potential viewers will be glad to know Kathy is looking lovely as ever!

Dear Kathy. Thank you so much for your kind letter, received today. Pleased you liked your birthday gift and card, both purchased with care and love. Thank you James for delivering them for me, you are a good friend. Love Raymond xx

Totally agree with Dave Barker with regards to the newspaper article. Lets face it what right did this person have in the first place to write a story about Kathy,s private and personal life without first checking if it was true or not.You also mention the play Dave, well in my view its the name KATHY KIRBY which draws the public, lets hope Kathy is getting her fair share of the profits.?

I am sure that Kathy's many fans and admirers will be more than pleased that, as promised, Kathy has filmed her contribution for her D.V.D. This will have confounded her critics, well done Kathy. Kathy is nobodies poodle. She is her own woman and does what she wants to do in her own time at her own pace, ably supported by James and John. I can only now wait in anticipation for the release of the D.V.D. Thankyou Kathy and lots of love. Sandra and John.xx

Dave and Raymond, very soon Kathy will be giving her first face to face interview with a journalist for a leading national newspaper for the first time in around 25 years. I am sure she will give her views on the play and lots of other things too. So at least you will have it from Kathy directly. And no Kathy is not receiving any financial gain from the play.

Hello Kathy, a friend mentioned your new website on his Christmas card, so I couldn't wait to take a look! What a joy it is. It is simply a FABULOUS tribute to a GREAT star. The blogs have been a joy to read: no grand-standing or self opinionated statements - just a celebration of your work and career; and that is how it should be. I will be back often. Love to my favourite singer Tom xxx

Kathy, what a beautiful site to a beautiful star. I am only in my '30s and only discovered your recording work in the past couple of years. What a voice! Only matched by your "Hollywood" looks.
May your God and mine keep you safe. I love you. Thank you for your music. Jaz.

Dear Kathy,
Thanks for wonderful site - and music tracks. I am enjoying!
I remember - perhaps before 1967 - Kathy, you were on tour in Israel and came back to the UK and sang HAVA NAGILA on TV (I think the Palladium)- it was indeed very touching for me. How kind, and brave, that was of you - to sing an Israeli song!
I left the UK in 1967 for Israel as a volunteer and remained - but I haven't forgotten you! Oh no!
Do you know my dear Kathy? It was not only your hits and wonderful singing... it was THAT! YOU: that character of yours - that bubbly you!
Hugs and kisses
Yonatan XX
Thanks gang for making this all possible :-)

Oh Kathy, what a wonderful site! You must be so pleased that you are still SO loved. My late husband would have loved seeing it, and hearing your voice as you are today - he absolutely adored you, and listened for hours to your recordings. He often said "there will never be another Kathy Kirby" Thank you for all the pleasure your work gave him. I play your records often now as they brings him close to me again.
That means the world to me. My love and thanks. Valerie xxx

Kathy Kirby! What a priceless site! What a wonderful tribute to a great star. How is it that I have never discovered it before?
As an 'old boy' from the States now living here in London; we often used to wonder in the sixties why you never made it 'big' in my own country? Your records were often played on the radio, especially "The Way of Love", and Jesus, when I saw your foto - well it was pure Hollywood glamour! I have since read James Harman's excellent biography on your life, and reading of the mangement problems the reasons become clear. An excellent biography, very sad, I am just glad James and a few other guys are there for you. I have loved the blog page to see how much you have meant to SO MANY people. I will visit here often. No one sings "My Man" like you do Kathy. With love Steve xxx

When is the DVD out then?

Hello Kathy, as a young man of 24 I have only just discovered your work. Hope you will not think me ungallant to say that I saw one of your CDs at a car boot sale near my home in Norfolk just before Christmas. Don't worry you were in good company with The Beatles and Elvis amongst others also on sale! Anyway I was intrigued by this gorgeous looking woman on the sleeve so I bought the CD. What I didn't expect was to be totally knocked out by your incredible voice. I have since been searching the web for other recordings, and found this wonderful site devoted to you. By coincidence, my Dad's twin, who long ago emigrated abroad - I don't really remember him that well - has a favourite singer. Guess who? You! Dad told me, and I think it both amused him and made him feel good really. You were and are one truly exceptional singer. With love Martin xxxx

In response to the enquiry, the DVD is coming out late March/early April. I am sure if you contact Odeon they will give you a more definite release date

Hi Kathy, apart from being one of the most beautiful ladies I have seen, your singing was wonderful - only equally by you bubbly persona.
I enjoyed you singing 'Following in my father's footsteps'-in top hat & tails! I saw you at the Birmingham Odeon & you were fantastic.Really wish you'd make a public appearance again. I wish you love, laughter & happiness in 2009. Kevin.x

I don't have much time for today's 'pop' sounds or indeed the largely extraneous noises purporting to be music which has been produced over the last 40 years or so. So it is perhaps no surprise Kathy that you still retain your popularity - but all the more remarable nevertheless - as a singer who treated each song in an exemplified manner over and above anything imaginable. With your world-class quality and clarity of voice within the realms of popular music, you have no equal.
You are the best in my 'Songbook' anyway.
Love as always to you Kathy.

Thank You Kathy for the signed photo for our Grandaughter Cherith.
She was taken into Hospital Dec 29 with breathing problems, it was found to be fluid on the lungs. They drained them but as fast as they drained the fluid came back. Over two weeks the fluid they drained was equal to 17 wine bottles. She was airlifted to the Childrens Hospital in Minneapolis some 800miles. She lapsed into a coma and had many strokes which has left her severely brain damaged. She may never walk or talk again, this is so bad for such a sporty girl. She was an 'A' student in all subjects.
I know she did not know about you, but she is such a big fan of the 60's music, mainly The Beatles.
I am hoping your photo and a CD which I put together (using some of your songs from your CD)may help to bring her back.
There is a website set up for her, if you would like to check on her progress.
Go to www.caringbridge.org/visit/cherithgrove
Cherith is only 14, was the joker in the family.
At the last count there was over 80,000 hits.
I Thank You and James for the photo.

Hi Kathy & James
Just found your website....
brought back memories of the London Palladium sometime in the 60s with you Kathy and Arthur Askey on the bill, cannot remember the occasion or date ,i was only young, perhaps you could remind me? Also who else was on the bill?
can only remember your lovely voice , and Arthur doing his buzzy bee bit.......Johnxx

Hi John, spoke to Kathy about your posting. She did appear in a number of all star charity gala's at the London Palladium, but thinks that maybe the show with Arthur Askey you mentioned, was her summer season at the Theatre Royal, Brighton in 1970. There is a poster of the show in the scrapbook section. Best wishes James

Hi Kathy & James
Just to let you know, our Grandaughter Cherith Started to talk yesterday Sunday 15 Feb. After the Doctors said she will never walk or talk.
On Sat there was a small group singing in her room, Cherith's younger sister Annika asked Cherith sing La! Cherith sang La! in perfect pitch. Her Dad said that was a million dollar note.
Then on Sunday Cherith's Mum asked Annika see if Cherith can say "Mama". Annika said "Cherith say Mama". So Cherith's first word since the end of December, and for the second time in her life was "Mama".
She said everyone's name in the room.
We are so happy, we do not know shall we laugh, cry or what!
Maybe the photo of Kathy & the CD I put together of Kathy's songs 'Dance On' & 'Make Someone Happy', had some part in this miracle. You have made us Happy, so "My Thanks To You", Kathy you helped this 14 year old girl in a Minneapolis Childrens Hospital.
I will let you know when Cherith starts walking, but if she cannot walk she can communicate.
Thank You so very much Kathy.
Your Friend & Fan
Dave Mac

Hi Kathy, A fanciful poem which I'm sure reflects the desire and admiration shared by all of your fans and could have been written by any of them...

Oh to share the dance with you
If to dream ahead the queue
To dance as one, in love us two
Time is still till morning dew
On cloud nine, in mid-air
As if the dance floor isn't there!

I know Tony, don't give up the proverbial day-job!
